1 person dead in I-225 crash in Aurora

The crash occurred early Sunday morning at the East Mississippi Avenue interchange

One person was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning in Aurora, police said.

Police responded to a report of a crash at 1:20 a.m. at the East Mississippi Avenue and Interstate 225 interchange, according to police in a news release.

Two people from one vehicle were transported to a hospital and one was pronounced dead. That person’s identity has not yet been released.

Authorities are investigating whether alcohol, drugs or speed contributed to the crash.

Aurora police Sgt. Michael Douglass declined to comment on how many vehicles were involved in the crash or to provide additional details about what occurred.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked contact police.

The early morning crash marks the 22nd traffic fatality this year in Aurora, police said.
