Colorado ski areas reporting record October snowfall, some shattering previous records

At least three Colorado ski areas are reveling in record October snowfall.

In Summit County, Breckenridge broke its old record of 46 inches when it hit 48 on Wednesday, according to a Vail Resorts news release, and Keystone’s 44 inches was one more than the previous record. Record figures for Arapahoe Basin were not immediately available, but the resort tweeted that its snowpack stands at 160 percent of average.

Summit County’s other area, Copper Mountain, is due to open on Nov. 8, the same day as Breckenridge. Keystone opened Oct. 12.

Steamboat, which is scheduled to open Nov. 23, has received 63 inches, shattering its previous record of 40, according to spokeswoman Loryn Duke. Meanwhile, Winter Park and Eldora both have pushed up their openings. after receiving 40 inches so far this month. Eldora opens Friday, .

Loveland also stood at 40 inches on Wednesday but that was not a record. Loveland had a 58-inch October in 2006, according to spokesman John Sellers.
