Denverites can expect a sunny day with fall-like temperatures Sunday, but the higher terrain is expected to get strong wind gusts throughout the day.

The day calls for a high near 51 degrees and a low near 26 in Denver, with wind gusts between 5 to 7 mph during the day and calmer winds at night, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Forecasters predict temperatures in the high 40s and 50s during the days for the remainder of the week.

Wind gusts could get up to 50 mph in the higher mountains on Sunday, the weather service said.

On the eastern slopes of the Front Range, above 8,000 feet, those gusts are expected to be between 30 and 45 mph, including along Interstate 70 around Georgetown and U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass, according to the weather service. That will likely lead to snow blowing.

Forecasters also predict gusty winds up to 30 mph over the far northern Colorado plains near Wyoming and Nebraska, according to the weather service’s hazardous weather outlook.

The windy conditions are expected to continue through mid-week, it stated.
