
Another climbing gym is entering the fray.
Climber Jason Haas is opening in Broomfield, aiming to have climbers on its walls by Dec. 20.
The 25,000-square-foot gym will have 150 routes and 100 bouldering problems. It’ll include a full retail shop, childcare opportunities and yoga classes. A full-time physical therapist will work in the building.
“There’s a lot of climbing gyms in this area, in the Front Range. Probably more so than most places in the country,” Haas said. “But even still, itap spread out and there’s a need.”
An on-going monthly membership will cost $79 per month. G1 currently has a team of 15 and is still hiring, Haas said.
“When I learned to rock climb, you would just rock climb more to get better, whether you were a beginner or professional athlete,” Haas said. “In the last few years, the climbing community itself has been putting a lot of energy into trying to understand more sports training for climbers.”
Whether thatap adding cardio and weight training or making sure to take advantage of rest days, Haas wants his gym to be there to help build community among climbers.
Haas has been in the climbing industry for around 20 years, doing everything from setting routes and working front desks at gyms to working in gear shops and being a sponsored athlete. He’s been involved with several non-profit climbing organizations and helped start the Boulder Climbing Community. Most recently, he’s been a teacher for 14 years while simultaneously running Fixed Pin Publishing, a company that publishes guidebooks for climbers, which he sold to start the gym.
