An Adams County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect near Watkins on Friday morning after that person fired on officers, authorities said.

No deputies were injured in the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Adams County deputies tried to stop a stolen vehicle with a wanted person inside around 7:10 a.m. Friday morning near the Shell truck stop in Watkins, according to the sheriff’s office.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect driver fled in the stolen vehicle while firing multiple rounds at deputies,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Officers ended the pursuit near East Colfax Avenue and Peterson Road in Watkins.

An Adams County sheriff deputy shot the driver, who was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
