The Colorado Rapids missed the playoffs for the third straight season, but the future looks bright if a recent list is to be believed.
Colorado landed two players — midfielder Cole Bassett and defender Sam Vines — on the , which were unveiled Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bassett, 18, signed a homegrown contract with the team in 2018 and appeared in 20 games last season (14 starts), recording two goals and two assists.
: “Bassett is perhaps the most promising of the Rapids’ young cohort, bursting onto the scene after signing with the first team in August 2018. He scored a goal in last year’s final match and went into this season hoping to carve out a starting role. Making 14 starts among a veteran midfield, Bassett has shown the ability to be a hub for possession while also being a useful piece in the team’s press. He spent time this offseason training with the Arsenal Under-23 team.”
Hines, 20, played in 26 games last season (23 starts).
: “A speedy and physical left back, Vines enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Rapids in 2019. The Homegrown Player appeared in 26 matches, starting 23, and parlayed his strong play into call-ups with the US Under-23 national team. To become an elite player at his position, Vines will need to improve in the technical and tactical aspects of the game.”
Auston Trusty, a 21-year-old defender Colorado acquired in November, was ranked No. 13 in the 2019 fan vote. He was No. 10 on the 22 Under 22 list in 2018.
The Rapids have not had many players appear on this list in years past. Dillon Powers (11), Shane O’Neill (19) and Deshorn Brown (20) made the 2014 list. Powers and Brown were also on the 2013 ranking at Nos. 23 and 20, respectively.
