There could be a little bit of snow on Christmas day, but metro area residents can expect mostly sunny skies and warming temperatures through the weekend and into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast could change before Dec. 25, but right now the chance of a white Christmas is pretty low, said Kyle Frieden, NWS meteorologist. “There’s nothing to get too excited about,” he said.

Current weather projections call for a 20-30% chance of snow showers on Christmas Day, which comes next Wednesday.

Between Thursday and Christmas “we’re looking pretty good,” said Frieden, NWS. “The only thing is an increase in clouds Sunday into Tuesday.”

Thursday is expected to be partly sunny with a high temperature near 48 and an overnight low of 23 degrees.

On Friday, the mercury is expected to inch up to 49 degrees during a sunny day. The overnight low will be 25.

Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high near 55 and an overnight low around 28 degrees.

Sunday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 56 and an overnight low of 30.

Monday’s forecast is a mirror-image of Sunday with an overnight low of 27.

Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high near 47 degrees and an overnight low of 24.

Christmas Day is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 41 degrees.
