Plans for city of Denver staff to expand into the top floor of The Denver Post building downtown died Monday night with a tie vote from the City Council.
The proposed nearly 10-year sublease with DP Media Network LLC would have allowed the city to use the 11-story building’s top floor at a cost of $9.9 million. Council members opposed to the sublease voiced concerns about the cost and a lack of planning on the city’s part.
It’s not yet clear if Mayor Michael Hancock’s administration plans to change the proposal and resubmit it for the council’s approval, spokesperson Theresa Marchetta said. If the proposal is resubmitted, it must pass through committee again before reaching the full council for a vote.
Councilwoman Jamie Torres, the tie-breaking vote, was absent from Monday’s meeting and could not be reached for comment Tuesday on her position.
