Denver police release photos of three suspects in New Year’s Day stabbing death of 15-year-old boy

Photos of three suspects in the stabbing death of a teenager on News Year’s Day in Denver were released Tuesday as police asked for the public’s help in solving the city’s first homicide of the year.

Wayli Alvarado-Gonzalez, 15, was stabbed at about 1:45 a.m. outside a convenience store at 1850 S. Sheridan Blvd., according to police. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Tuesday, police released photos of three males in a parking lot, saying Alvarado-Gonzalez was killed in an altercation with the trio. A $4,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction is being offered in the case.

A GoFundMe account has been started to . “Wayli was a wonderful friend, outstanding son and a kind-hearted boy who was murdered on New Year’s Day without reason,” the page, which spells his last name as Gonsales, says.

The teen “helped his mother emotionally and financially as she is a single parent,” according to the account.

Orvelina Gonzalez, his mother, told Denver7 that in their home country of Guatemala.

The GoFundMe page, which was created last week, has raised $6,428 as of Tuesday night, with a goal of $15,000. Antonio Esquibel, who describes himself as the principal of Lincoln High School, donated $250.

“My family and I believe we need to support Wayli’s family as much as we can. I hope others will do so,” Esquibel said.
