Lakewood police kill armed man after standoff at Wheat Ridge motel

Two Lakewood police agents shot and killed an armed man inside a motel in Wheat Ridge early Sunday morning after a two-hour standoff, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

The incident began at about 1 a.m. in the American Motel, at 10101 West Interstate 70 Frontage Road North, when members of a joint Wheat Ridge and Lakewood SWAT team responded to the motel to try to arrest Thomas Charles Snyder II, who was a suspect in a .

The 52-year-old man refused to leave his motel room and officers negotiated with him for about two hours, police said. The SWAT team then went into the room and discovered Snyder holding a handgun, according to police.

Snyder refused to put the gun down and two Lakewood members of the West Metro SWAT Team shot and killed him.

The two Lakewood agents who fired will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.

The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.
