A man was killed in a snowmobile crash Saturday in Pitkin County, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. about 3 miles up Midnight Mine Road from Castle Creek Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Members of the Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol and Mountain Rescue Aspen responded to the crash within 30 minutes, traveling via snowmobile because the area was not accessible by car.

They arrived at the crash scene and determined the man was dead, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office is investigating, and interviewed one other person who was traveling with the snowmobiler.

John Boyd, a 40-year-old vacationing from Washington, D.C., was identified as the victim, the coroner’s officer said Sunday.

Exactly how the crash occurred and how the man was injured was not immediately clear Sunday.
