A Fountain police officer who shot and wounded an alleged car thief, who is suspected of firing a gun at officers, has been identified.

Sgt. Stephen Williams, who has been with the Fountain police since Aug. 20, 2013, shot the suspect Monday in a residential area on High Point Lane, according to a news release.

The suspect, who was taken to a hospital with serious wounds, was not identified. An investigation is ongoing, and the Colorado Springs Police Department is the lead investigative agency in the incident.
