A 17-year-old boy was charged as an adult Thursday in connection with the shooting death of a 64-year-old Lakewood man.

Caleb Hasson Brewer is charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery and related crimes in the killing of Robert Steige, according to a statement from First Judicial District Attorney Peter Weir’s office.

Lakewood police responded to a report of a shooting at 8115 W. 12th Street on March 9 and found Steige, who had apparently been shot twice, just outside his front door.

Brewer was arrested Monday and is being held without bond at the Mount View Juvenile Detention Center. He is expected to appear in court Thursday and is also charged with attempted aggravated vehicle theft and two counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
