A 37-year-old woman who attempted suicide in the Garfield County Jail died three days later at a local hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
Laura Ebbs was found unresponsive on Tuesday April 7 in her jail cell during a routine security check, according to a news release.
Deputies and medical staff performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator inside the cell on Ebbs, who was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. At the hospital on April 10, Ebbs was taken off life support on and was pronounced dead.
“Investigation into the incident has revealed no criminal involvement,” the release said. “Jail deputies and medical staff followed all protocols with respect to security checks as well as managing the incident.”
Ebbs was booked into the jail on March 3 on suspicion of numerous criminal charges stemming from her alleged involvement in a Jan. 11 armed robbery in Glenwood Springs. Eric Reynolds, 43, an alleged accomplice in the armed robbery of a store, was shot and killed by New Castle police officers after a high-speed, wrong-way pursuit on Interstate 70.
