Trump is wrong about his power over states’ actions
Re: “Trump: His call on when to ease rules, not governors’,” April 14 news story
President Donald Trump insists he has total authority over the states when it comes to easing restrictions. He has also claimed to have zero responsibility for a national response or for putting the power of the federal government to work to ease the states’ procurement problems for medical supplies. He assumes zero accountability for the deaths of thousands of Americans. We need a president that will use his authority and responsibilities to help the American people instead of his own interests.

I thought I had heard everything coming out of Trump’s mouth, but what he said yesterday during his rally at the White House, which, by the way, is the people’s house, takes the cake!
Who does he think he is? He is not a monarch, and our country is not his kingdom. He is here to serve, not to be served, and he does not have “absolute power.” Has he ever read the U.S. Constitution? This is, as far as I know, a democracy, and we are not his subjects.
What else will it take for the Republicans to take a stand and do the job they were elected to do? How much more shame and damage is this man going to inflict before something is done?
It is my hope that come November, our country speaks loud and clear, and gets rid of the disease that is and has been Trump’s time at the White House.

How not to prioritize health
Re: “Trump and FEMA are prioritizing health and safety,” April 14 commentary
I nearly laughed when I read Jeff Huntap assertion that Colorado receiving 100 ventilators from FEMA should be a “moment of celebration.” Regarding governors’ requests for help, Trump said: “Itap a two-way street. They have to treat us well, also. They can’t say, ‘Oh, gee, we should get this, we should get that.’ ” Gov. Jared Polis initially requested 10,000 ventilators and then dialed that down to 1,000 after his stay-at-home directive was proving to be effective. But, yes, letap be happy about 100!
Trump just declined to reopen enrollment in the Affordable Care Act for Americans who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic. Can Hunt truly say that Trump is prioritizing health? Was Hunt asleep while Trump wasted valuable time downplaying the dangers of the virus?

Benefits of not driving
Re: “Numbers drop as drivers stay put,” April 5 news story
Thanks to The Denver Postap Bruce Finley for his educational, top-notch article concerning cleaner air and less pollution because of the virus and people driving less. This terrible pandemic could be a wake-up call for us human animals, who are responsible not only for our atmosphere, but also indirectly for the billions of non-human animals who roam, fly and crawl on our planet. We can, with ingenuity, intelligence and willpower, help save ourselves and Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants.
