Colorado health officials on Thursday reported that the state has surpassed the 5,000-test-per-day threshold, with a primary focus of testing at senior living facilities. The testing capacity is a marked improvement but remains well short of the level of daily tests experts say is necessary to safely monitor the outbreak.
State officials on Thursday also announced 1,310 people who had contracted COVID-19 have now died, while death-certificate data shows 1,062 fatalities were directly due to the virus.
Meanwhile, new testing mandates were implemented for workers at nursing homes in hopes of avoiding facility outbreaks. And speaking of outbreaks, we’re tracking all outbreaks at Colorado grocery stores, retail outlets and restaurants here.
Throughout the day, we will share the latest coverage from Denver Post journalists on the coronavirus outbreak on this page. Also, bear in mind The Denver Post relies on support from its readers to provide this in-depth coverage of the coronavirus outbreak, so if you haven’t already.
