Man killed, Englewood officer wounded in shooting at light rail station

A 31-year-old man was killed and an Englewood police officer wounded in a confrontation at a light rail station Tuesday night.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. at the Regional Transportation District light rail station at 901 Englewood Parkway, according to a statement from Englewood police.

Officers were called to the station on a report of a domestic violence incident in which a gun was pointed at the victim, according to police. The 31-year-old man, who has not been named, was identified as the suspect in the domestic violence incident before police arrived.

“Once in contact, there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and responding officers,” the news release said.

One officer, a six-year veteran on the force, was shot and taken to a hospital; she was stabilized and expected to survive. The suspect was killed ,and the Arapahoe County Critical Response team will investigate the incident.

A dog was also inadvertently shot during the exchange of gunfire, according to police, and the dog died at the scene.
