Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday said it is likely the coronavirus spread during the recent protests over racial justice in Denver — but what’s yet to be seen is whether that spread will translate to tens or hundreds of new cases.
Colorado’s numbers remained low, as 148 new cases were reported Thursday and the number of people hospitalized from the disease decreased by 14 to 168. Polis said the state is keeping an eye on neighboring Utah and Arizona, where numbers are climbing.
The economic fallout from the pandemic continues to deepen as 1.5 million in the U.S. filed for unemployment last week alone. Here in Colorado, the future of enclosed shopping malls is in serious jeopardy and a number of restaurants are announcing permanent closures.
In the Colorado Senate, Democrats worked feverishly in the closing hours Thursday to extend an eviction moratorium through October, but the talks collapsed as the session adjourned. With the eviction moratorium set to expire, an extension looks unlikely.
