A driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash in Aurora crashed a second time Thursday and died, police said.

The first collision happened at East Sixth Avenue and Sable Boulevard, according to police. The driver fled the scene and crashed again at South Sable and East Centrepoint Drive. He died in the second crash.

The driver of a Buick was allegedly fleeing the earlier crash when he rear ended a Chevrolet Suburban, ran off the road and hit a tree, police said. The Buick was going at a high speed when the fatal crash occurred, police said. The driver who died was not wearing a seat belt.

At the time of the fatal crash the driver was not being pursued by officers, police said. No one else was injured in the crashes.

An investigation is ongoing. The driver’s name was not released.
