Colorado communities from the high country to the Front Range have been inundated by smoke billowing from the state’s four large wildfires — but meteorologists say more is coming.

Smoke from Northern California’s wildfires — which have burned through acres — arrived in Colorado on Friday morning, but the National Weather Service in Boulder says much more of it will reach the northern Colorado mountains by the evening and northeast parts of the state by Saturday morning.

Those fires, which have left at least and forced tens of thousands to evacuate, have produced so much smoke that it’s reached all the way to Nebraska, the National Weather Service said.

The air quality in Northern California reached levels considered “very unhealthy” Thursday, as doctors try and determine how the smoke might affect COVID-19 patients.

Denver has seen air quality in the “” level for several days, with intermittent warnings for those with respiratory ailments, older adults and children.

“Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion” through at least 4 p.m. Friday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said in its .
