The University of Northern Colorado baseball team will have new face around Jackson Field as former MLB manager Jeff Banister joins the staff as director of player development.
Banister joins head coach Carl Iwasaki’s staff of new hires after spending time managing the Texas Rangers and most recently as a special assistant with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“It is great to have Bani join the Bears baseball program for the upcoming season. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and will be a great asset in mentoring our current players and coaching staff,” head coach Carl Iwasaki said in a press release. “He has been a great friend and mentor to me for the past twenty-plus years, welcome Jeff and Karen to the Bear Den!”
Iwasaki and Banister have a relationship in baseball that goes back to the Hawaiian Winter Baseball League when they worked together in 1995-96.
In addition to Banister, the Bears also hired Dan Martony and Danny-David Linahan as new staff members.
