A body was found Monday in a home that was destroyed by fire in the foothills of Jefferson County.

At about 1:15 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a report of an explosion in the 8100 block of Stags Leap Trail, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Firefighters with the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District, and other nearby fire departments, contained the blaze to the one structure and put out the fire, which charred the residence.

On Monday afternoon, after the burned-out structure had cooled, investigators entered the residence and found human remains inside, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Investigators are at the scene Tuesday morning to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities are also working to determine the identity of the body.
