The National Football League announced on Wednesday that Diontae Spencer has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Spencer scored his first career touchdown on Sunday with an 83-yard punt return in the first quarter. The play gave Denver an early lead over the Carolina Panthers in a 32-27 win. The second-year Broncos’ effort was tied for the seventh longest in Broncos history and the third-longest in the NFL this season.
Spencer’s honor is the third time a Broncos player has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week this season. Kicker Brandon McManus earned the nod in back-to-back weeks earlier this year.
On the season, Spencer has returned 10 punts for 175 yards, with his 17.5-yard average ranking second in the NFL.
