One flame extinguished
And thus on Jan. 20, 2021, by reciting a short oath promising to uphold the Constitution before the chief justice of the United States and the American people, by a man whose core beliefs embrace that very document as the foundation of this country, the “administration of fabrication and alternate facts” was extinguished into ashes. For the future and the survival of this republic, may it never rise again.

Let Boebert represent
Lauren Boebert was duly elected by voters on the Western Slope. Their values are much different than those in the metro area. Let her do the job she was elected for — even if you disagree. To do less is to be simply hypocritical.
Lauren, you’re doing fine — keep up the good work.

Too little, too late from MSM
While it is encouraging to see The Denver Post editorial board excoriate Boebertap words of incitement, the following sentence near the end reeks of the cowardice that the mainstream media has exhibited for almost the entirety of Trump’s presidency.
“We can’t imagine thatap what her constituents had in mind when they elected her just a few months ago.”
Like the vast majority of MSM outlets, there was little if any blame laid on his supporters for either their delusional acceptance of his incessant, blatant lies or the fact that it was far, far more than just a few Proud Boys and others of their kind who are dangerous and traitorous Americans.
The majority of those who voted for Boebert were well aware of who she is; otherwise, they would not have opted for her over the incumbent, Scott Tipton, a strong but conventional conservative.
Letting those voters off the hook when the DP board members know better continues the complicity of the MSM in ignoring the truth.

Ending affiliation with disrespect
It is with sadness that I just changed my party affiliation to independent. Having been a lifelong Democrat, I am deeply disappointed by both parties’ lack of open ears and tolerance.
The vitriol spewed by either side is unacceptable in a society where I thought we were about respecting another person’s point of view, beliefs and cultural background. I am not interested in “reprogramming” another person; I would rather have a society where open conversation and discussion effect change.
I do not want to “cancel” my fellow Americans because they don’t agree with me. I do not want someone to lose their livelihood because he or she doesn’t agree with me. I want to respect dissent. That makes us stronger.

Huge step in policing
Re: “Program takes a hands-on approach,” Jan. 10 news story
I was heartened by the article about restorative justice. Rather than defunding the police force, this program takes the burden of lesser offenses off the courts and humanizes the way in which minor offenders are treated by the justice system. Involving mental health professionals where needed and allowing victims to participate in the process is a huge step forward in community policing.
