A critical week for the CSU Rams men’s basketball program got off to a good start. At least on the honors front.

Colorado State’s Niko Medved was selected Monday as the Mountain West’s coach of the year for men’s basketball, as selected by league media.

Medved, who’s in his third season at the helm, is the first Rams coach to receive the honor since Larry Eustachy, the man he replaced, in 2017.

CSU forward David Roddy (16.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game) was selected to the all-league first team, the conference announced Monday, while Rams point guard Isaiah Stevens was tapped for second-team honors.

Medved has led the Rams to a 17-5 record, 14-4 in league play and second in the Mountain West’s regular-season standings. The 14 conference wins were the most ever for CSU as a member of the Mountain West.

The Rams, who begin the week squarely on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, open play at the MW tourney in Las Vegas at 9:30 p.m. Thursday as the 3 seed, where they’ll face either Fresno State or New Mexico.
