The Rockies Insider.

In two Cactus League exhibitions against the Dodgers this spring, the Rockies are 0-2 and have gotten pummeled by a combined score of 22-5.

In the team’s first matchup March 1 at Camelback Ranch, Los Angeles cruised to a 10-0 win in six innings. Trevor Bauer threw two clean frames and the Dodgers’ bullpen shut the Rockies down the rest of the way, allowing just two hits. Meanwhile, four of Colorado’s five pitchers that day were scored on.

On Monday, starting the game with a lineup that will closely resemble what they use on opening day, the Rockies were trounced 12-5 at Salt River Fields as the Dodgers scored multiple runs in five different innings. Colorado did tag L.A. second-year standout Dustin May for two runs in three innings.

Hey, maybe it’s just spring training.

Or, maybe it’s an omen of another sad year for Colorado in the “rivalry,” which has been one-sided for basically the entirety of the club’s 29-year existence. The Rockies were 4-15 against the Dodgers in 2019 (.211 winning percentage) and didn’t fare much better in the condensed 2020 season, going 3-7 (.300).

The Rockies don’t have any more 2021 Cactus League games scheduled versus the Dodgers, whom Colorado opens the season against April 1 at Coors Field.
