A JBS worker died Saturday after falling at the JBS plant in Greeley.
The worker was struck by equipment and was knocked into water, said Ted Herrera, business manager for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 1. The cause of the man’s death has not yet been determined.
The Greeley Fire Department responded to the JBS plant in the 800 block of North 6th Avenue at about 6:10 p.m. Saturday, the department said. When they arrived, the man’s colleagues had moved him to a safe location and were providing medical aid.
Firefighters and paramedics took the worker to Colorado Medical Center, but the man did not survive.
Herrera on Sunday called the incident shocking and sad, and said the man had worked for JBS for some time. He called on JBS to increase safety at the plant.
JBS spokesperson Nikki Richardson said in an email they are “saddened” by the loss of one of their employees and “are working closely with local officials and OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) to investigate the incident.”
