A major crash involving four cars closed the intersection of Parker and Chambers roads early Monday morning around 5:20 a.m., Colorado State Patrol public information officer Josh Lewis said.

A Ford pickup, driven by a 32-year-old man, was heading northbound approaching a red light, according to an initial investigation by Colorado State Patrol. The other three cars, a Mercedes SUV, Mercury sedan and a Nissan were making a left turn. The Ford hit all three cars.

The Ford driver was taken into custody, however, the use of drugs or alcohol were not suspected, Lewis said.

The driver of the Nissan, 54, was taken to the hospital and declared dead. The Mercedes driver, 47, was also taken to the hospital after suffering moderate injuries. The 36-year-old driver of the Mercury sedan suffered minor injuries, but was not hospitalized.

It was not immediately known what caused the wreck.
