A wildfire broke out Wednesday in southwestern Colorado east of Durango on federal land.
The Vosburg Pike fire is burning on Bureau of Land Management property north of U.S. 160, according to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.
Federal and local firefighters are battling the fire on the ground and with air supports, including helicopters and single-engine air tankers.
The fire has burned about 40 acres, said Andy Lyon, a spokesperson with Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch Center. Smoke is visible from Durango.
BLM, Forest Service and La Plata County resources are working to contain an approximately 40 acre fire east of Durango and north of Highway 160. It has been named the Vosburg Pike Fire.
