A cyclists rides with her daughter along the road in Waterton Canyon on June 28, 2021 in Littleton. Waterton Canyon Trail is a 12.4 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Louviers. With the South Platte river running alongside the area is a popular place for hiking, biking, fishing and other outdoor activities. It is accessible year-round and good for all skill levels as the trail is a graded road and relatively flat.

Downpours have drifted into downtown Denver the last few evenings, and another could occur Friday. Severe storms may impact the surrounding plains with hail and strong winds in the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, there will be a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. for the Mile High City. Other than the chance for a sprinkle, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 92 degrees on Friday. The northeast plains could see a line of strong storms from Sterling to Akron and Limon. Toward the metro area, isolated scattered intense showers and possibly thunderstorms are possible. Denver will dip to 63 degrees overnight.

A chance for isolated and scattered afternoon storms persists throughout the weekend. Saturday will be sunny downtown with a high of 93 degrees. Gusts of around 18 mph and a low of 65 degrees are forecasted.

Sunday will be similar, with a high of 93 degrees and a low of 65 under clear skies unless an afternoon storm pops up.

This weather pattern will continue into the beginning of next week.
