Spurred by warm temperatures and low humidity, the Morgan Creek wildfire north of Steamboat Springs grew to 5,117 acres Monday and remains 0% contained.
The good news for fire crews is that Tuesday’s cooler, wetter weather is expected to help their firefighting efforts, Troy Hagan, an incident commander for the U.S. Forest Service.
“Smoke production from the Morgan Creek Fire will be much less today than yesterday due to the changing weather conditions,” .
The fire started 15 miles north of Steamboat Springs on July 9. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Nearly 400 personnel are fighting the fire.
