After five years slinging lobster rolls and shoestring fries, Steuben’s has closed its location outside of Olde Town Arvada.
While the reimagined American diner fit well inside a former Gunther Toody’s along Ralston Road, it will continue to operate an original location on 17th Avenue in Denver’s Uptown.
“Through most of the pandemic, my efforts were focused strictly on Steuben’s and Ace, our two neighboring restaurants in Uptown, Denver, while Steuben’s Arvada remained closed,” owner Josh Wolkon said in a statement. “With a smaller operation, I had more time to connect with both staff and guests. It became clear to me that this busy Uptown block was the sweet spot for myself and our team.”
This time last year, Wolkon closed another beloved spot in his Secret Sauce family of local restaurants. Vesta had served diners on downtown Denver’s Blake Street for 23 years before shuttering in July 2020.
“I know I speak for many in our industry when I say this past year and a half has forced us to re-evaluate our business models,” Wolkon said. “We all had time to consider whatap important to us and what makes us happy.”
Wolkon continues to run his neighboring 17th Avenue restaurants, Steuben’s and Ace, which have created a following for their food and lively atmospheres.
Until a new tenant arrives, the Arvada restaurant space will serve as a commissary kitchen for Steuben’s food truck, as well as to make pies, ice creams and more desserts for Wolkon’s other restaurants.
