Driver dies in crash on Interstate 70 near Silverthorne

The eastbound lanes were shut down by the crash for about five hours

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 have reopened at Silverthorne after a fatal traffic crash.

The crash happened at about 9:25 a.m. Thursday, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler.

The driver of a Subaru crashed into the rear of a semi truck, Cutler said. The driver of the Subaru died in the crash. He was the only person in the vehicle. The truck driver was not injured. An investigation is ongoing.

U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass was used as a detour. The eastbound lanes reopened at about 3 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
