Coming into Denver from the northeast may be more challenging Wednesday as a large truck has gotten into a big crash.
The Colorado Department of Transportation shut down the westbound lanes of I-76 near Thornton due to the incident, which took place just before 7 a.m. Traffic is being diverted off the highway at the Commerce City exit.
There is a spill associated with the crash. The truck appeared to be going east and crashed through the barrier into the westbound lanes, where it and several vehicles were impacted by the out-of-control truck are blocking traffic.
US Highway 85 and Colorado Highway 2 are the best alternate routes in the area.
Terrifying looking crash as it appears the semi driver lost control going EB on I-76 near 74th Ave and crashed through the concrete barrier and continued a bit into the WB lanes. Several cars going WB were hit by the debris.
There is also a huge fuel spill to clean up.
