Two men in their 60s were killed minutes apart in separate crashes in Aurora on Saturday, according to Aurora police.
The first crash happened at 6:43 p.m. on East Stephen D. Hogan Parkway, between E. 6th Avenue and S. Piccadilly Road, Lt. Chris Amsler said in a statement.
In that crash, the 18-year-old driver of a Honda crossed the center line on the parkway and crashed head-on into a Toyota, killing its driver, a 60-year-old man. The man was not wearing a seat belt, Amsler said.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, and no arrests have been made. Neither driver has been publicly identified. The 18-year-old driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The second crash happened just minutes later, at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Tower Road. Investigators believe the 61-year-old driver of a Chevy was driving south on Tower Road and tried to make a left turn when it was struck by an northbound Chrysler.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 25-year-old man, and his 19-year-old passenger survived the collision but were hospitalized in serious condition, Amsler said in a statement. The 61-year-old man died.
“Investigators are looking into whether or not excessive speed was a contributing factor in this collision,” he said. No arrests have been made and the drivers have not been publicly identified.
