The Avalanche’s franchise-record 18-game home winning streak came to an end in a shootout loss to the Coyotes on Tuesday. Here’s a look at the longest home winning streaks in franchise history by each of Colorado’s four major professional sports teams.
Avalanche
Wins:18
Dates: Nov. 3, 2021 – Jan. 30, 2022
The story: Colorado put together the fifth-longest home winning streak in NHL history behind the consistency of center Nazem Kadri as well as the firepower of Mikko Rantanen, the team’s leading scorer. Seven of the wins during the streak at Ball Arena were by three goals or more, and five of the victories came in overtime/shootout.
Broncos
Wins: 19
Dates: Aug. 31, 1997 – Jan. 17, 1999
The story: Denver beat the Chiefs 19-3 in Week 1 of 1997, then proceeded to go undefeated at home through the next two seasons en route to back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Fifteen of the Broncos’ 19 victories over that span at Mile High Stadium were by double-digits before the streak ended with a 38-21 loss to Miami in the 1999 season opener.
Nuggets
Wins: 24
Dates: Jan. 20 – April 20, 2013
The story: Kenneth Faried’s double-double helped Denver beat Kevin Durant and Oklahoma City in overtime to begin the streak at the Pepsi Center, which the Nuggets rode into the Western Conference playoffs as the No. 3 seed. Once there, the Nuggets faltered in Game 2 with a 131-117 home loss to Golden State, and the Warriors won the series in six games.
Rockies
Wins: 11
Dates: June 30 – July 24, 1996
The story: Quinton McCraken walked-off the Dodgers with an RBI double to begin the best LoDo stretch in club history. Colorado then swept the Padres, Giants and Mets at Coors Field, with three more walk-offs in that span, including a couple over the Mets to end the run. July 24 was the last day Colorado would be alone in first place in the division that season.
