The nation’s points leader is up for college hockey’s top player award.
Denver junior forward Bobby Brink on Wednesday was named one of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.
The Minnesota native leads the country in points (55), assists (41) and points per game (1.53). Last week, he was the lone unanimous selection to the All-NCHC first team and is a finalist for the conference’s player of the year and forward of the year awards.
The other nine finalists, as selected from voting by all 59 Division I college hockey head coaches and online fan balloting, include: F Matty Beniers, So., Michigan; F Brian Halonen, Sr., Michigan Tech; D Luke Hughes, Fr., Michigan; G Devon Levi, So., Northeastern; G Dryden McKay, Sr., Minnesota State; F Ben Meyers, Jr., Minnesota; G Yanev Perets, So., Quinnipiac; F Nathan Smith, Jr., Minnesota State; and F Bobby Trevigno, Sr., Massachusetts.
From this list, the three finalists — dubbed the Hobey Hat Trick — will be named on March 31. The winner will be announced at 4 p.m. MT April 8 on the NHL Network. The voting will be determined by a 30-member selection committee and another round of fan votes.
The Pioneers have had two previous winners: defenseman Will Butcher (2017) and forward Matt Carle (2006). Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won the award in 2019 as a sophomore for Massachusetts.
