White Sox 4, Rockies 2
Sunday at Salt River Fields
On the mound: Right-hander Ryan Feltner made his first Cactus League start and pitched two innings, giving up a run on three hits, with two strikeouts and no walks. Manager Bud Black liked the velocity on Feltner’s fastball. … Right-handed side-armer Justin Lawrence pitched 1-2-3 third inning, striking out one.
At the plate: Colorado outhit the White Sox, 11-8, but could manage only two runs, going 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position. … New starting shortstop José Iglesias had the Rockies’ only extra-base hit, a double in the first. … Colorado loaded the bases in the second with no outs but failed to bring a runner home when Dom Nunez struck out, Carlos Perez grounded to third, forcing C.J. Cron out at home, and Alan Trejo flew out to deep center field.
Worth noting: Corner infield prospect Elehuris Montero continues to impress with his power and his glove. He made a diving stop at third base and also rocketed a single up the middle. “We’re interested,” Black said. “We are very curious how this is going to play out. We are very positive (about) how this might turn out.”
Up next: Rockies (2-2) at Padres (1-2), 2:10 p.m. Monday, Peoria Sports Complex Rockies pitchers: LHP Ryan Rolison, RHP Noah Davis, LHP Lucas Gilbreath, RHP Jake Bird, LHP Dillon Overton, RHP Chad Smith
