Friday was Jackie Robinson Day throughout Major League Baseball.
On the 75th anniversary of Robinson’s major league debut, breaking the color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, players honored the Hall of Famer by wearing a No. 42 jersey. Players and coaches also had the option to go socks up and show off the custom printed socks with a photo of Robinson.
In honor of the diamond anniversary for the first Black player in the modern era of MLB, all players wore 42 with Dodgers blue numbering. This differs from previous seasons where teams would still use their own numbering on uniforms.
The 42 of Robinson was officially retired by MLB for all teams in 1997. The last player to wear 42 was Yankees legend Mariano Rivera.
