In one of the greatest individual goals in Avalanche history, MacKinnon put the biscuit in the basket for a third time late in the third period of Game 5 to score a hat trick against the Blues.
With 2:45 remaining in regulation MacKinnon exploded up the ice and fired the puck over the blocker of the Blues’ goaltender Ville Husso for the go-ahead goal. It didn’t stand up, however, as Robert Thomas scored the tying goal with less than a minute left to send the game to overtime.
