Essay: 40 years ago, I ran my first Bolder Boulder. Here’s why I still love it so much.

There is no better place than Boulder if you’re a passionate runner

The first Bolder Boulder 10K was run in 1979. More than 2,000 runners showed up, including Olympic marathon champion Frank Shorter, No. 1 at far left. Shorter came in second, behind Ric Rojas, but won the race in 1981.
