Anderson, the former Rockies starter who was in danger of turning into a journeyman — four teams in six years and a 4.62 ERA — is pitching like an ace for the Dodgers. The lefty, who signed a one-year deal for $8 million, is now commanding his changeup, which, at 79.2 MPH, is one of the slowest pitches in the majors. The pitch is a good counterpart to his routine fastball. On June 15, he came within two outs of throwing a no-hitter vs. the Angels. He wasn’t as sharp in his last start at Cincinnati, but still picked up his eighth win of the season, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits over five innings. He’s 0-1 with a 1.90 ERA in three games (two starts) vs. the Rockies. Anderson is 11-14 with a 4.09 ERA in 43 games (41 starts) at Coors.
Kuhl is trying to regain the form that made him an effective starter earlier in the season. He’s coming off his fifth loss (third in a row) at Miami, where the Marlins reached him for four runs on six hits across five innings. He’s pitched well at Coors Field, going 2-2 with a 3.29 ERA in five starts. In four career starts vs. the Dodgers, he’s 2-2 with a 4.95 ERA.
Trending: C.J. Cron was 2-for-4 Sunday for his 25th multi-hit game of the season. He’s hit safely in 12 of his last 17 games, slashing .324/.373/.559 with three home runs over that span.
At issue: Ryan McMahon’s roller-coaster season continues. He was 0-for-10 with three walks and two strikeouts in the three-game series at Minnesota. McMahon is hitting .238 with a .711 OPS.
