Denver police arrested a murder suspect Thursday after they said they caught the man climbing out the back window of a condominium where a body was later found, according to a news release.
Kennedy Lakics, 28, was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder after allegedly trying to escape the scene where a victim’s body was found.
The body was discovered by Denver police Thursday in a condominium on East Iliff Avenue.
Police received a 911 call around 1:03 p.m. Thursday reporting shots had been fired earlier that morning in a condominium unit in the 9700 block of East Iliff Avenue, according to a news release.
The security officers who had made the 911 call also claimed that they believed an individual was dead inside the residence.
The news release said a tactical team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. Lakics then allegedly crawled out the back window and was detained “without incident.”
Police said the body of an adult male victim was found inside with an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators believe the suspect and victim were familiar with each other, police said.
The medical examiner’s office will provide the victim’s identity and cause of death.
In the meantime, police are asking that anyone with information about the incident call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
