Fans attending the Colorado Avalanche season opener Wednesday night will got to sing Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” right along with one of the band members.
Singer/bassist Mark Hoppus alerted fans via Twitter – not just addressing the crowd from the jumbotron – when the Avs hoist the Stanley Cup banner and take on the Chicago Blackhawks for the official start to hockey season.

Hoppus kicked off the banner raising by first thanking fans and then joining them for an in-arena sing-along to the punk-rock hit that’s become a beloved tradition at home games. “Congratulations, let’s do it again next season,” he told the crowd.

If you’re wondering why Hoppus is an Avs fan, the reason is simple.
“My favorite thing about hockey is when the game is going on and people sing our songs,” he said in an interview with NHL Network’s Jackie Redmond.

Blink-182 has been part of the Avs’ extended hockey family since singing its hit “All the Small Things” became a beloved tradition at home games. Fans hoped punk-rockers Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker and guitarist/singer Tom DeLonge would make an appearance at the Stanley Cup parade in June after tweeting a congratulations to the Avs. In an interview with Altitude Sports Radio this summer, Hoppus said he wanted to attend — “I’m going to get arrested for trying to jump on the float,” he said, in part – but ultimately the band did not show.
On Tuesday, Blink-182 announced it is reuniting for a world tour that stops through Ball Arena on July 3, 2023. The band is also expected to release a new album soon, starting with a new single entitled “Edging,” which drops Friday.
