Each Denver high school could decide whether to have armed police on campus, draft DPS safety plan says

DPS school board would need to rescind its suspended 2020 policy barring officers on campuses

Collinus Newsome, sister of East High School Dean Wayne Mason, emotionally talks about the shooting of her brother at the high school in March during a news conference on May 1, 2023, in Denver, Colorado. Parents of East High School students have formed P-SAG, or Parents Safety Advocacy Group, and hold press conferences every Monday in front of the Thatcher Fountain in City Park. They want to continue the conversation about gun violence in schools and the lack of support they say the school and the deans have gotten from the DPS board. Newsome said that only one member of the board has reached out to her or the group regarding the shooting. Her brother is one of two deans who were shot at East High School by a 17-year-old student.
