After three years at Washington, Sav’ell Smalls is coming to Boulder for a fresh start.

On Tuesday, the former Huskies edge defender and five-star recruit announced that he has committed to Colorado.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 259 pounds, Smalls will be a junior with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

During his time at Washington, Smalls never missed a game, playing in each of the Huskies’ 29 contests since he arrived in 2020. He recorded 32 tackles and one tackle for loss, playing primarily in a backup role.

Coming out of Kennedy Catholic (Wash.) High School in 2020, Smalls was a five-star prospect, per the 247Sports composite rankings. He was listed as the top recruit from the state of Washington and the 30th-best recruit in the country. He was ranked as the No. 3 defensive end in the nation in the 2020 class.

Smalls had 31 scholarship offers coming out of high school, including from CU. He chose Washington over Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington State and several other Power 5 programs.
