Colorado launches new codes aimed at making buildings electric ready

State says new requirements will cut emissions, save homeowners money; builders, municipal leaders voice concerns about costs

Colorado is launching new model building codes that are designed to make new construction ready for electric vehicles, solar panels and electric appliances. When municipalities update their building codes or adopt new ones, they will have to approve codes that meet or exceed both the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code and the new state requirements.
