
Colorado sophomore Dylan McDermott was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America’s PING-All-America team Tuesday, landing honorable mention recognition.
The honor is the latest in a long list of McDermott’s accolades for the 2022-23 season, which included first-team All-West Region and first-team All-Pac-12 honors, plus two Pac-12 player of the week awards. McDermott also was selected as CU’s co-Male Athlete of the Year at the school’s annual CUSPY’s (CU Sports Performers of the Year), sharing the award with skiing’s Filip Forejtek, the .
McDermott ended the season ranked No. 43 by GolfStat and No. 93 by Golfweek.
“It’s an honor to be a member of the All-America teams,” McDermott said in a release from CU. “It’s always been a goal of mine and to be able to say that is awesome. I’ve had a good year, but hopefully will be able to learn from the good and bad and do even better in the future.”
McDermott set 10 school records and led the team in a record-breaking 36 statistical categories, including a program-record stroke average of 70.12 and 10 tournaments under par, also a team record. Yannik Paul owned the previous best of leading the team in 24 categories in 2017-18.
McDermott is the fifth player under head coach Roy Edwards to earn an All-America honorable mention honors, joining Patrick Grady and Derek Tolan (2009), Jeremy Paul (2016) and Yannik Paul (2018). He is the 21st Buffaloes player to earn some level of All-American honor in men’s golf.
On Monday, McDermott tied for 22nd in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying, missing a chance to advance into the Open in two weeks. He carded a two-round mark of 7-over 149 on the par-71 Tacoma Country and Golf Club course.
“’Dylan has had an outstanding, record-breaking year – one of the best in CU history,” Edwards said in the release. “The All-America teams are as deep as I can ever remember with all the COVID exempt players still playing in college. It is a great honor for Dylan, and something he will surely build on into the summer and next season.”
