Editor’s note: This story has been updated to correct which vehicle went off the side of the road and the direction the Nissan was traveling.

A motorcyclist who died July 3 in a three-vehicle crash near Nederland has been identified as 60-year-old Dennis Petri from Arvada, according to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.

At 11:47 a.m. July 3, Petri and another motorcyclist were riding Harley-Davidsons northbound on Colo. 119 near mile post 23, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gabriel Moltrer.

As they approached Colo. 72, state patrol reported that a Nissan Frontier was attempting to turn left from westbound Colo. 72 to southbound Colo. 119.

The Nissan collided with the right side of a Harley-Davidson Street Glide, driven by a Petri, Moltrer said. The crash caused the Street Glide to overturn, and the motorcyclist was ejected.

The second motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson Sportster driven by a 57-year-old woman from Lakewood, collided with the Street Glide, striking Petri, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Petri was pronounced dead on scene, according to Moltrer.

The Sportster drove onto the left side of the road, where it rolled onto its side before stopping.

The woman driving the Sportster had minor injuries. Neither the 19-year-old man driver from Bellvue nor the 19-year-old woman passenger in the Nissan Frontier were injured.
