Police are investigating a Sunday night crash involving a motorist and a pedestrian in Aurora that left one person dead.

The crash happened at about 10:20 p.m. on Peoria Street, closing the roadway from 19th Avenue to Montview Boulevard, the Aurora Police Department , the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

A 21-year-old man driving a 2012 Dodge Ram south down Peoria hit an unidentified man who was attempting to cross the street, spokesperson Joe Moylan said.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he died shortly after, Moylan said. He will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the case, Moylan said.

The driver and vehicle remained on scene after the crash, and the road re-opened around 1:15 a.m.

The crash is currently under investigation, and officers are trying to determine who had the right of way. No charges are being considered at this time, Moylan said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
